Shortlist: Fifa World Goal of the Year

Beautiful goals make the beautiful game.

Fifa has announced the 10-goal shortlist for this years Puskas Award (World Goal of the Year). The shortlist for year's award, named after legendary Hungarian forward Ferenc Puskas, includes goals from superstars Lionel Messi, Samir Nasri, Arjen Robben and Giovanni van Bronckhorst. The stunning opening strike from this year's world cup, taken by South African Siphiwe Tshabalala is featured alonside efforts from Brazil's Neymar and Turkey's Hamit Altintop.

Players who might otherwise miss out on the limelight also have their place on the list - Linus Hallenius, of Sweden's Hammarby, is included for a breathtaking piece of aerial control; Kumi Yokoyama of Japan, the only woman shortlisted, takes on 6 players before scoring her effort; and Matty Burrows of Belfast based Glentoran FC completes the list with a goal that must be seen to be believed.

In fact, it is Burrows' effort that is taking all the plaudits. The 25-year-old's incredible aerial back heel won a match for the Northern Irish club in the 92nd minute of play.

Burrows admitted: "I could maybe try to do that 100 times and it would only come off once - I caught it perfectly."
